One thing this pandemic has brought to the forefront, at least for me, is how much we need each other. While we miss hugging our friends and gathering together, the virus has not taken away our ability to communicate in a variety of ways. In fact, we have more options for written and verbal communication than ever before, and for that I am grateful.
I would like to share a brief excerpt about the power of our words from my upcoming book :
We have an amazing opportunity to be a blessing to people simply by putting our caring thoughts into words. We have the task and the privilege of encouraging one another—I know how badly I need that sometimes. That’s why my blog is called Splashes of Encouragement.
Just a few words can help someone feel seen, heard, cared about, and supported. As you read each of these phrases, pause for a moment and consider the impact it could have.
“Yeah, me too.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Thank you.”
“I’ll go with you.”
“I’ll be praying for you.”
“I’m so happy for you.”
“You’re important to me.”
Even just one little word is enough to make a difference. We can acknowledge someone’s shock or excitement with “Wow!” or validate someone’s physical or emotional pain with “Ouch!”
Can you think of a time in your life when just a few caring words made all the difference?
Do you know someone who could use a word of support, encouragement, or celebration? You could send a text or an email, but consider making the extra effort to pick up the phone or pick up a pen. There is power in your words.
“Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” (Prov. 16:24)
