To Everything There is a Season

To Everything There is a Season

Hello readers and welcome!

At this time of year, many of you are heading to beaches and pools to enjoy splashing in the water. I hope you will also enjoy this blog, Splashes of Encouragement. Finally, the time is right.

In January, I thought the time was right to start this blog. Pushing through my issues with technology, I refreshed my memory about websites and hosting, learned more about blogging… but kept hitting roadblocks. I hired someone to help me, but it still wasn’t falling into place. Although starting a blog seemed like the next logical step in fulfilling God’s call for me to write, I prayed and seemed to hear nothing. Then I heard a member of the clergy say when we ask for guidance and don’t get clear direction, often it means we need to wait. It was a good reminder that simply forging ahead on my own timetable is not always the best strategy. The idea may be good, but the timing may not be. Letting out a deep sigh, I put the blog on the back burner.

I had no idea what was coming down my life path. Just a few weeks later, my husband and I opened our home to a relative in need of care, and I added “nurse” to my list of responsibilities. Then there was the phone call from our daughter—placed from an emergency room across the country (more on that in the next post). Holding God’s hand kept me grounded, but I was busy, tired, and stressed. There were days I was so frazzled I could hardly speak a coherent sentence. I was not in a position to write much that would be worthy of a reader’s time.

Now it is summer, a season of refreshment and renewal. Flowers open to the sun, boats push off from shore, and it is time to launch this blog!

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens… Ecclesiastes 3:1 (RSV)
