Welcome to my Home Town

Welcome to my Home Town

A dear friend and I are planning a trip together.  (Beach Walk Ministries friends know us as Bergie and Falph.) She has seen very little of the East Coast, and I am excited to show her where I grew up on Long Island, New York.  It’s going to be fun to walk the streets of my hometown with her, pointing out my old house, the town dock, and the marina where my family kept our boat.

We also plan to go to my father’s home state of New Hampshire and visit the charming town my family used to vacation in. Set among the lakes and pine trees, that town always felt like the home of my heart. The memories I made there include some of the best quality time I ever had with my father.   I look forward to sharing it with my friend, and hope she will sense the peace I always felt there.

But our East Coast adventure won’t happen until after school is out. Meanwhile, I scheduled another trip. As I was packing, it occurred to me that I wanted the same experience my friend will have when we travel together this summer. I wanted to be shown around by someone with a heart for the places I was going. And I was packing for a trip to the Holy Land!  So I prayed for Jesus to show me where he grew up, where his friends kept their boats, the places he went for peace and connection with his Father, and the places of suffering.

I got back home last week. It was an amazing trip. I’m still a little tired. We saw and did so much that I feel it’ll take months to fully process it. And I am excited to share some of what I experienced in upcoming posts.

  4. This came at the perfect time, packing for my annual sister trip to spring training in Florida. Then visiting one of my mothers favorite cousins, then a good friend who just relocated to Florida.
Your post encouraged me to appreciate the journey of connecting today with the people you appreciate most from the past. Thanks!
